Reading does not come naturally to many people. Even readers who seem to be able to identify words at an early age, need enabling skills that will help them as they advance in their reading. As readers become more facile with skills such as phonemic awareness decoding, recognition of high-frequency words, letter sounds and blends, and others, they become more fluent readers and can increase their comprehension skills.
