Baxter the bear is an important part of our kindergarten reading and writing curriculum. Just as children learn to talk because of the need to communicate, they become interested in reading and writing when they see it’s connection and purpose in real life. Baxter is our class stuffed bear. He gets to spend the night with the child who is Baxter’s friend for the day. Baxter has a journal in which the child and parent record what he/she did during the visit. At the beginning of the year the child illustrates and the parents record the child’s story. At school the student shares the journal with the class. Later in the year the child may be able to write a few words or sentences and read it to the class. |

Whenever possible we will be spending up to 25 minutes before the start of Kindergarten to play. Please make sure that your child is dressed appropriately. In order to foster independence, select coats and boots that your child can handle with the least amount of adult assistance. Please use nametags on all articles of clothing. |

There are many ways to help prepare your child for kindergarten. We feel that the best way is by reading to your child daily!!! |

Each month your child will receive a homework calendar with daily activities you can do with your child. The activities correlate with and reinforce the skills we are working on at school. |
