Ideas for Experiments with heat and light (you can make a graph with most of
these)
· Insulation Box – have children use a shoe box and insulate it with some type of material (cotton, wool, foil, feathers – set some rules). Bring the “insulation boxes” in and put an ice cube in each one (use cubes from icemakers so they will all be the same size – put them in baggies). See which insulating material works best by seeing which cube stays intact the longest. Vary this by putting boxes that are the same by a sunny window and in a cool, dark area in the room.
· Gather different containers and pour hot water into the containers. See what temperature is on the outside of the container in 3 minutes.
· How long does it take an ice cube that is placed in a sunny window to evaporate – how long does it take for one in a dark place to evaporate (use small pieces of ice).
· Great Hands-On Weather Experiments
