Snack
This year in kindergarten, we will be asking families to send in a class snack on a rotating schedule. The schedule will be sent home in your child's journal each month, so you will be able to mark the date on your home calendar. Your child will bring the class snack basket home, as a reminder to send in a short healthy snack for the class the next school day. My hope is to build a sense of community and sharing during this short communal snack time. Milk will be ordered for all children. Please send the money for the year, $9.00 ($.05 x 180 days= $9.00). Please pay cash, we will provide a receipt. *If allergies are a concern, please let us know.
Birthdays
Birthdays are special and are not overlooked in our classroom. We sing Happy Birthday to children as they wear the class birthday cape and a birthday crown of their own! Since many children have birthday parties with family or friends, we would like to try celebrating birthdays in the classroom a little differently.
Instead of traditional cake and candy, we could have the child "treat" our class to a book. The book could be wrapped in birthday paper and tied with a ribbon. He/she can unwrap the book and share it with the class, and then place it in our class library. We will place a bookplate with your child's name on the inside cover and your child will be part of our classroom forever!
Of course, you are not obligated to celebrate your child's birthday by giving a book; we can celebrate you child's birthday in a more traditional way if you prefer. But, we think it's a great way for your child to share his/her birthday with our class, by stressing the importance of reading books and sharing. Paperbacks are fairly inexpensive, so it will most likely be less expensive than a more traditional party. Please send a note if you need title ideas.
Summer and non-school birthdays can also be celebrated. One idea for summer birthdays is to celebrate them at the halfway point, or at a group summer birthday party the last week of school. Weekend and holiday birthdays can be celebrated the Monday or Friday nearest the actual day. Please send a note to remind me of these special days.
