Curriculum

October 2007

Team Discovery has been busy reading and learning about trees. We "adopted" the old, majestic birch tree down at Swasey Park and used it as our model for our picturing and writing process. First we sketched the tree while at the park, and then we returned to the classroom to paint it using our watercolors. Finally, we were inspired by our pictures to write a short story about the tree.

In math we are working hard on our second grade addition facts. Every week we meet with our parent volunteers to check our progress. Every student will be bringing home flashcards each week to cut out and use for daily practice. We are also writing and solving addition and subtraction stories.

September 2007

We have four monarch caterpillars in our classroom to observe as they go through the metamorphosis to a butterfly! What an exciting opportunity to be able to observe the life cycle of a living creature right here in our classroom! Soon we will begin our study of trees.
