Edward the Confessor

Edward the III was born in Windsor, near London in 1312 and died in 1377. He was the oldest son of Aethelred the II and Emma. Edward’s job was an English king in 1327 and a confessor (a person who has authority to hear confessions.)
We study Edward the III because he ruled England and Edward won the battle of Crecy in what is now known as the Normandy region of France. This battle was the first important battle between France and England in the Hundred Years’ War. Edward believed that he was the true king of France, and he conquered much of that country.
Edward paid for his wars by starting a system of taxing imports. At the end of his reign Edward was not a very strong ruler. France came back and took some of their land.
